We welcome International Students

High Quality Programmes

We provide quality study programmes for students who are 5 – 11 years old.

Students can complete short or long term study programmes. Short term is a minimum of 10 weeks study. Students are placed in mainstream classes with New Zealand students of the same age. They attend the English language learning class where they learn to read, write and speak in English. The school employs an experienced English language teacher and learning assistants. Mrs Castagna the English Language teacher, provides pastoral care for all International Students. The students get to know each other well and develop special friendships with the help of Mrs Castagna.

Please contact the school office if you would like more information.

At Forrest Hill School we provide an integrated supportive environment for our International students. We believe in the following Principles.

  • Know your learners – we get to know our international students as learners. We take the time to understand their language background, language proficiency, and their experiential background. Each student and parent will meet with the ESOL teacher and a senior leader.
  • We have very clear identified learning outcomes – our teachers carefully identify what language the students need to successfully achieve the task.
  • Learning outcomes are explicit and the same for all students – our programme scaffolds the learning for all students.
  • All learners learn best when the experiences are relevant and authentic.
  • We believe in designing rich tasks that provide multiple opportunities for language development including the development of academic language.
  • We believe that learning for our International students should be a balance between  productive (speaking, writing) and receptive (listening, reading) language.
  • All students should be reflective and able to self assess their learning.

Enrolments can be done in person, see Sue Eaton at reception to proceed. Below is an online enrolment form should you wish to do this before your visit. For further enquires please contact the office at 09-410-8939 or email admin@forresthill.school.nz.

  • A resident or citizen of Australia; or
  • A national of the United Kingdom in New Zealand; or
  • The holder of a temporary permit that is valid for two years or more

If you do not belong to one of these special categories and you receive medical treatment during your visit, you will be liable for the full costs of that treatment. We strongly recommend that you have insurance that will cover the cost of medical treatment in New Zealand for the duration of your stay in New Zealand. We also strongly recommend that you obtain insurance to cover your travel to and from New Zealand.”

From time to time an international student at Forrest Hill School may need to request a refund of their fees. These requests will be considered on an individual case basis.

Guidelines:

  • All refunds must be applied for in writing.
  • If the withdrawal is prior to the student attending the school the fees paid will be refunded in full minus the $1,000.00 administration costs.
  • If the student wishes to withdraw after commencing at the school no refund will be made, except where the student returns home due to serious illness of the student or because of a death or serious illness of a close family member or other exceptional circumstances. In that event the refund will be calculated based on the information set out in the following paragraph.

Withdrawal from Forrest Hill School due to Exceptional Circumstances:

Where a student withdraws from the school and is eligible to receive a refund, payment will be retained by the school for the current term and the following term . If the request for withdrawal takes place in the final term no refund will be awarded. The actual total value of the refund to the person who paid the fees will be an amount the Board thinks appropriate. Any such amount will be calculated taking into account the following points:

  • The number of terms of study undertaken
  • The Board’s best estimate of the cost to the school of providing tuition.
  • An amount that, in the Board’s opinion, reflects the use made by the student in the programme of the school’s capital facilities
  • The appropriate proportion of the amounts paid by the Board in respect of the foreign students.
  • All other fees prescribed by the Board

No refunds will be made:

  • Where students are asked to leave the school by the Board due to violation of school rules or breaking conditions of the contracts signed for international fee paying students.
  • Where students wish to transfer to another school for whatever reason
  • Where students return home for any reason other than the student’s serious illness or serious illness of a close member of the family.

If permanent residence is obtained after having enrolled at the school:

  • Refunds will be calculated for full terms only. Any term partially completed will be paid for in full. Other costs as outlined in paragraph 4 above (Withdrawal from Forrest Hill School due to Exceptional Circumstances) may need to be taken into consideration in calculating the amount of the refund.

Reference: All contracts will be subject to New Zealand Law. New Zealand Law will apply and the parties will submit to the jurisdiction of the courts.
